When you Sell A copper fitting do you know if it is lead free?

The EPA and other organizations utilize standards set forth by independent organizations such as NSF to establish guidelines to ensure compliance to practices necessary to ensure water quality and safe drinking water.  Copper fittings that will be used for potable water must be NSF-61 approved. LT Copper fittings have NSF-61 approval.  Many fittings are not NSF approved and may use lead in the production of the fitting. The Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) makes it unlawful for any person to introduce into commerce any pipe, or any pipe or plumbing fitting or fixture that is not lead free after August 6, 1998. The Agency interprets Section 1417(a)(3) to mean that no one, including the manufacturer or distributor, may distribute any pipe or plumbing fitting or fixture that is not lead free after the August 6, 1998 deadline. The statute makes no distinction between wholesale or retail sales of these materials. If you are selling copper fittings ask your supplier to see the NSF approval for their products.
